Frequently Asked Questions about Full Body Scans

Is Full Body Scan Covered by Insurance?

Not usually. Most insurance plans don’t cover scans unless symptoms are apparent before the procedure. Medicare also does not pay for screenings, which are designed to detect diseases before symptoms appear. As payment for scanning services, NYU Medical at Columbus accepts cash, debit cards or credit cards (MasterCard or Visa). You may also apply for your CareCredit card as part of Columbus’ services.

What is the Advantage of Full Body Scan?

Full Body Scan, performed in a matter of minutes, screens for the presence of heart disease, certain cancer stages, emphysema, carotid artery disease, osteoporosis, leg artery narrowing and abdominal aneurysms, as well as other abnormalities. Early detection may substantially increase chance of recovery, which means the Full Body Scan can save lives.

How Will I Know What Scans are Best for Me?

Everyone is different and subject to various risk factors. Please discuss with your physician which scans may be right for you.

Who Will Perform My Exam?

Our screening exams are performed by friendly, knowledgeable registered technologists. After the exam, your results will be interpreted and then reviewed face-to-face with a physician who specializes in radiology.

What Equipment does NYU Medical at Columbus use for Full Body Scan?

Our CT scanner is the world’s first 32-slices-per-second scanner, allowing us to find out about potential health risks in their earliest and most treatable stages.

What if I Have Metal Implants in My Body?

You can still have a scan or screening. In some cases, some larger implants may affect the quality of the image, depending on where the implant is located.

Enclosed Spaces Make Me Nervous - Should I Be Concerned?

No. Our rapid CT scans do not require you to occupy any enclosed space. In fact, the lights will remain on and you’ll be finished in just a few minutes. With the CT tests, you simply lay on our special scanning bed. Once you feel comfortable, the bed will gently pass through a large “donut” designed to record each image.

How Quickly Will my Results Become Available?

Your scan will be reviewed immediately — there is no waiting and no hassles. You’ll also receive a personalized CD ROM with your images for future use by the NYU Medical at Columbus Radiology Department or your physician. A written report from your radiologist will also be mailed to you within a week.
